Don’t stop your exercise over the summer

Don’t stop your exercise over the summer.

Don’t stop your exercise over the summer, is vital for all to continue exercising. Here I am almost half way through the summer holidays, and if you happen to be as lucky as me to be OFF(at home entertaining my three kids) for the summer ,then you will appreciate my difficulty this wet overcast dreary Thursday morning in July.
I have noticed that the weather and how good or bad it is doesn’t really effect the kids. Once the kids are entertained, have a camp to attend or just have a pals over they are as happy as the day is long.(and don’t some of them feel long)
My normal routine is to drop the kids to school and go for a run or a walk or do some circuit training with my friend. This is great for my mind as well as my waist line . I always manage to find an hour for myself(badly needed time in a busy house of homework, after school activities , food shopping ,laundry and house work to mention but a few)to do my exercise. But the summer is a different kettle of fish.
I am very much aware of the need to warm up , cool down and the exercise in betweeen.

Do you need a reason why you should continue to exercise?

Do you need a reason why you should continue to exercise, here are a few.Regular exercise will Ward Off Disease, Heart Disease,Stroke,Type II Diabetes,Obesity,Back Pain and Osteoporosis, to mention but a few things. Then of course there id the Psychological Benefits. Improved self-esteem is one of the top benefits of regular physical activity. While exercising, your body releases chemicals called endorphins that can improve your mood and the way you feel about yourself. The feeling that follows a run or workout is often described as “euphoric” and is accompanied by an energizing outlook. Exercise can help youcope with stress and ward off depression and anxiety. And these are just a few of the ways exercise improves your health. Studies have suggested it can also help with certain types of cancer, improve immune function, and more.
The easiest way to injure yourself
The easiest way to injure yourself is to skip the warm up and cool down after exercising. It can be as simple as running on the spot for 5 mins and 2 mins star jumps or just borrow the skipping rope from your kids. Then the cool down can be some stretches .
Ensuring you are adequately hydrated is also crucial. The first week of any new exercise plan is the one where injury is most likely..If you do hurt yourself, remember RICE, Rest the injury.Ice for 20 min, Compression bandage and finally Elevate the limb for a few hours. After that make sure you warm up properly and avoid further harm by avoiding alchol , avoid running or other forms of exercise for a few days .
After all that, all that is left to do is to find 40 mins to do the exercise. I have tried getting up a 6.30 and going out for a run before my husband heads off for work(Hard to do in this weather)or I ran around my not very big back garden and driven my poor dog mad. Or I have tried convincing the kids that doing a pliates DVD would be great fun.

So here are some ideas

Adopt a dog and take it for walks every day.
Do things the old-fashioned way — get up and change the television channel; open the garage door manually; use a push lawnmower.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Walk briskly whenever you can.
Minimize use of your car; walk to destinations within a mile.
Take up tennis or any other game or sport you enjoy.
Join a gym or health club.
Next time you are tempted to skip exercising, keep these wonderful health benefits in mind and remember, every little bit helps. You may not feel up to a rigorous workout, but how about a walk in the neighborhood?
Don’t pass up achance of a lifetime — that is, a longer and healthier one.
